Role Players - Game refs vs. role playing refs
Regular Game Refs vs, Role Playing Refs
There are two styles of refs: regular Game Refs supplied by Command Decisions; and Role Player Refs played by Team Tango Alpha2 and friends.
Game Refs are there to enforce the usual rules and the specific rules for Generation Kill, but not necessarily to interact with players other than maintain safety and the integrity of the game. They will be wearing orange or purple shirts.
Role Playing Refs (RPR) are referees with the same authority of the regular Game Refs, but will also be playing roles and interacting with the players to move the game forward.
They will be wearing just about anything to play their part. They may be in native Iraqi clothing or camouflage to blend in as a Marine, or even something totally off the wall. This does not necessarily make them hostile. Shooting a Non-Hostile costs your army 50 points.
Whenever a Role playing Ref is in Full Ref Mode (making a paint check or some other routine referee duty), they will hold up or have an orange flag tied to their mask. Shooting a Regular Game Ref or a RPR (in Full Ref Mode) is MINUS 100 points (and worse... possible ejection from the game!) Shooting a NON-hostile RPR in Role Playing Mode is minus 50 points.
Because this GenKill, any ref can make calls to varying degrees such as if who and how many an explosion kills, grenades etc. "Fair" does not come into the equation. Don't argue.
You can ask any player or Role Player to see their ID at any time. Players must comply or be considered hostile.
There are two types of Role Players.
Role Playing Refs (RPR - Iraq citizens, spies, mercenaries, etc.) and player (participant) role players. The RPR's are described above and are 3rd party characters to add more interactivity to the game.
The Active Role Players (ARP) are soldiers (on both sides) who have been selected by their commanders to play key roles. These roles are usually switched out from the morning to afternoon sessions to allow the most people play roles. Some roles, such as Attack Helicopter, are for 15 minutes and then must be surrendered back to the commander to be assigned or used later. A player can only play a role once. A Suicide Bomber or Smart Bomb can only play that part once. See the rules for each role player for details.
ARPs cannot make field calls or enforce the rules. They can only do what is on the back of their role playing card.
Some roles call for disguises. Some call for negotiations. Some are set decoration. Interact with these players as you would in the real world. Do not kill indiscriminately as that will cost you points, but be cautious.
